Paul Achs returned to the family winery in Gols in 1991 after spending time in California where he learned to produce red wines at the highest level of quality. Ninety percent of the production is dedicated to red wine and all 58 acres are farmed biodynamically. Paul Achs wines are characterized by elegance and finesse.

Heideboden is a flat and gravelly area between Gols and the lake and is a source of fresh and easy drinking red wines. Gravel soils mixed with limestone provide excellent drainage while warm breezes from the Pannonian plain bring the circulation and warmth required to consistently ripen red wine grapes.

Blaufränkisch Heideboden serves as the entry-level in Paul Achs’ range of Blaufränkisch. It is intended to be approachable and fresh tasting. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and is aged for 12 months in a combination of used Burgundian pièce and large French and Austrian oak casks.

Tasting Notes

Well-drained soil and the warm Pannonian climate gives Blaufränkisch Heideboden a ripe and generous fruit character while also being approachable and easy to drink.
