Paul Achs returned to the family winery in Gols in 1991 after spending time in California where he learned to produce red wines at the highest level of quality. Ninety percent of the production is dedicated to red wine and all 58 acres are farmed biodynamically. Paul Achs wines are characterized by elegance and finesse.

The vineyards of Paul Achs are situated in two main areas around Gols. Heideboden, a flat and gravelly area between Gols and the lake, is a consistent source of fresh and easy drinking red wines. The second area is the Parndorfer Platte, a south-facing escarpment of complex soils situated near the villages of Gols and Mönchoff.

Edelgrund is a single-vineyard located in the Heideboden area with vines planted in 1988. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and is aged for 12 months in a combination of used Burgundian pièce and large French and Austrian oak casks.

Tasting Notes

Blaufränkisch Edelgrund is a noticeable step up from the entry-level Heideboden bottling with additional depth and complexity provided by older vines.
