Radici Taurasi is Mastroberardino's flagship wine.  Although first released in 1928, the wine became known as, Radici, which translates as 'roots' in 1986.   This classic red is the result of painstaking research into exposure, chemical and physical characteristics of this region’s unique volcanic terroir and topography. Made from 100% Aglianico, and sourced from the Mirabella Eclano vineyard where vine age averages 30 years, Radici Taurasi is one of the most superb expressions of this ancient terroir.

About the Vineyard

Mirabella Eclano, with a South-West exposure and a deep and sandy and well drained soil, and Montemarano with a South-East exposure and a clay soil. The altitude is on average of 450 m a.s.l. The training system is the espalier with cordon spur pruning system and the density of plantation is on average of 4,000 vines/hectare (about 1,600 vines/acre), with an  yield of about 5,000 kg/ha (4,460 lbs/acre) and 1.3 kg/vine (2.87 lbs/vine).

Wine Production

Vinification with long maceration on the skins at controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. Refines for 24 months in French oak barriques and Slavonian casks and at least 24 months in the bottle before release.

Tasting Notes

This ruby-red wine has a full, complex spectrum of aromas, particularly of violet and blackberries. On the palate, it is full-bodied and mouth-filling, with persistent and elegant notes of plum, bitter cherry, strawberry jam and black pepper.

Food Pairing

Radici Taurasi pairs flawlessly with roasted meats, larger game, spicy Middle Eastern dishes, truffles and aged, flavorful cheeses.
