With the 2011 vintage of Barbaresco, the name on the label of Barbaresco Asij was simplified to 'Barbaresco'. Asij was created as the first Barbaresco of the house of Ceretto, from the the Asili vineyards of Barbaresco. It was considered Ceretto's top Barbaresco until the 70s, when Bruno and Marcello decided to invest in prestigious single-vineyards and began to purchase the first hectares of vines. From that point forward, Asij became the second wine of Ceretto's Barbaresco offerings. The grapes are sourced from multiple vineyards across the appellation, as was common before the movement to single-vineyard bottlings. Ceretto Barbaresco DOCG is a classic wine, intended to be like those from the turn of the century, when the concept of 'cru' was totally unknown to the region's winemakers. Made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, the wine is aged for 24 months in barriques and barrels to round and soften the tannins in the wine.

Tasting Notes

Ruby-red in color with garnet highlights. Aromas of dried cherries and rose petals are complemented by undertones of violets, licorice, vanilla, and spices.  On the palate, this wine is medium-bodied and rich with flavors of tart cherries, rose petals, and hints of truffles with a long, impressive finish.

Food Pairing

Pair this wine with roasted lamb shank, Bordelaise sauces, and pork torchons.
